We need to discover if the name of WILLIAM DINNIES' mother is given in the marriage records? There seems to be some confusion as to whom his mother is.We can only find one WILLIAM DINNIE born about 1740-1750 and he was born in Orkney to WILIAM DINNIE and HALLOW HURIE.How ever we found a site giving info on him that states his mother as being REBECCA BURNETT,that site also states that her gravestone puts her as the spouse of JAMES WATT! Our research shows him marrying ISOBEL WILL 25th. Feb.1777 in Aboyne,Aberdeenshire.Which is correct, please somebody help us.thanking you Jane.

Hello Jane.
You will find the details you require at the following website:-gordondinnie.com, click on the Aberdeenshire Line. Gordon is "the DINNIE Expert".
I too have DINNIE connections, via my Grandma, which link back to William & before & have established (as has Gordon) that:-
William DINNIE married Isobel Will 25th February 1777, Aboyne, Aberdeenshire. Williams parents were William DINNIE & Rebeka BURNETT. You will find that both William & Rebeka were, in fact, married twice. Rebeka also married James Watt WRIGHT.
Hope this helps... & Regards, Graitney.
