1811. John (Browne) Brown, a convict, was tried and sentenced to transportation for life for his part in armed robbery and for belonging to a secret agrarian society called The Caravests. His trial took place at Carrick-on-Suir. He was transported on the "Archduke Charles" arriving in the Colony in 1813. He was granted a Conditional Pardon in 1820 for good conduct while employed on roads over the mountains.

If I'm reading the post correctly then I think the husband & wife that paradise2431 mentioned were transported in 1828 - so would be long gone before civil registration started in 1864.

I'd say the best bet for finding details on Matthew and Mary is by looking for their trial(s). Assuming that was in Waterford then there is a newspaper available in the National Library (Dublin) for that time and area :
WATERFORD CHRONICLE July 10, 1827 - Dec. 29, 1827 Hardcopy Jan. 1, 1829 - Feb. 1, 1844 - Microfilm
I just noticed that 1828 is missing... sorry
not much use to you on the other side of the world ! ... but maybe there are other sources of these

Well thank you very much guys, yes what a help the Waterford History group charging me nearly $185 thats like a weeks wages for me so that is an avenue I am not going though. I'll keep looking it's a bit hard when my Matthew Power has been a good boy here in Auss, if you were bad you were always in court so there is a little or no records about him. Well there is no hurry I'll get there one day I but his photo on the picture restore site have a look. Thanks again Robyn

Have you written to Waterford City Library asking them to do a search of their records?
