Hi,

Has anyone ever applied for written permission to see parish records from the Diocese of Kerry? I just wondered how easy it was and what you ask and how!

Thanks

Hi Kate,
I have'nt but really like your question as I was just going to post a similar one.  Also wondering if anyone might know how to find out which Parish to write too? I would like to find Birth Cert for someone but all I know is that he was born in Co. Kerry in 1894.

Good luck with your searching

Hi,

I found a phone number 064 31168 and called the Bishop's office. They say they will post me out the written permission. I'll let you know.

I am interested in Kerry records too--Tralee I believe is the town--I think more than one parish though.  I need early 1800s records--any chance of getting them?

The bishop's office send you a letter and you take it into the National Library. They glance at it and let you have the film of the particular parish.

So you have to get separate letters for each particular parish you want to look at?

Hi,

I suppose you could ask for them all in one letter. I only wanted one.

I know this is painstaking and probably there's obviously a better way of doing things, you could try obtaining a diocasan directory where all the parishes are listed.  Many of the larger parishes have a sacristan he/she would look after many of the records.  Sometimes (for a small fee) they may help you out with searches etc.  If you write to the parish priest he would probably pass the letter on and you never know...!  However, with so many people now researching family trees they may find it a bit tiresome, but you could try.
