Can sks find Margaret BURTON b. ca. 1771 (nee Murray, formerly Erskine), in 1851 please?
In 1841 she was living at Kirkgate Alloa with her husband Martin Burton (or Halliburton). She died in Kirkgate in 1859, aged 88, so I'm hoping she was still living there in 1851.
Many thanks Jan

Hi Jan
Frustratingly, the closest match is a Margaret (no surname) with a birth year of 1770 living in Tullisbody, also born there. There is nothing else that matches under either her two married names or maiden name. Nothing for husband Martin either. Maybe some of the names in the household will be familiar to you:
Margaret ( XX?) 81, no relationship to head given, b. Tullisbody John Haldane 24, head, Printer Compositor, b. Stirling Margaret Haldane 22, wife, b. Clackmannan Catherine Haldane 9 Months, daughter, b. Alloa Janet Dickie 15, sister in law, b. Kincardine, Perth Robert Dickie 66, father in law, b. Clackmannan Robert Dickie 10, nephew, b. Kincardine, Perth
Address: Head Of Town, Tullisbody, Clackmannan
Her age on the 1841 census shows as between 1777-81 so I searched for 1775 +/- 10 years.
Regards.
Monica

Scratching the bottom of the barrel here! There is one more entry. The transcripion is dreadful, probably due to the writing in the original image. Might be relevant given there was a daughter Margaret showing in the 1841 Census entry. Again, no surnames show which makes it difficult to be certain:
Margaret 30, daughter, , occup. R??, b. Alloa Elizabeth Iorg?? 22, servant, b. Alloa Mangaret MG?? 60, house keeper, b. W??, Kirkcudbright
Address: Old Bridge, Alloa, Alloa
I note that in the 1841 Census Margaret Snr. as showing born in the County (Clackmannan) but who knows, sometimes this can change in different censuses. Regards.

Hi Monica,
Thanks for the lookup. It looks like the census for Alloa is a nightmare to read. Fancy the enumerator writing down first names only!
Neither entry looks like the right one although the second one seems to be nearer the right location.
I just had a thought - Margaret Burton was living next door to her daughter Elizabeth Henderson in the 1841 census. Elizabeth was also the informant on her mother's death certificate, so perhaps she was still next door in 1851. Is it possible to look at neighbours? Elizabeth Henderson's reference in 1851 is Address: Kirkgate, Alloa Parish Number: 358 Civil parish: Alloa Town: Alloa County: Clackmannanshire Address: Kirkgate ED: 4 Page: 5 Household schedule number: 24 Line: 16

Hi Jan
Tried searching with just parish no. and Margaret and nothing else is coming up. These were the searches I did earlier. Looked also at the page entries where Elizabeth daughter is entered and nothing relevant either.
The closest ones (simply because of first name and approx. birth year) are the ones that I posted earlier.
Regards.
