I would think that the one who became the shepherd was the elder one.  His age changes a lot but never to the extent that he could be mistaken age wise, for his own nephew. 

There are 3 of them that I can find on the 1871 census.  The one that I sent you yesterday, another the son of William and Sarah, born 1854 in Hertford Hunts, and then one born 1837 in Histon Cambs lodging in Kent.

Sure.  Still looking for Libbie, Tibbie or Lillie just in case but nothing yet.

A look at the image for this Abraham show that he is not the son of William and Sarah but the SERV of :-

1871 Census England Huntingdonshire Huntingdon St John
RG10/1527/46/14
High Street

In the house of William and Sarah WARD and daughter Ellen H. 
PAPWORTH Abraham Serv Unmarr 17 Footman Domestic Servant Hunts Hartford

Sorrry to mislead with this one but it had been transcribed incorrectly.
