The 1901 Census of Ardrossan for 32 Barr Lane, Ardrossan shows a "Jessie Dickson, Boarder, Age 1, Ardrossan". She was killed by a train at Ardrossan Railway Station on 17 Feb 1920 and buried the following day at Ardrossan Cemetery. Later, a notice was inserted in the local newspaper in which she is referred to as the ADOPTED daughter of the family who resided at 32 Barr Lane. I'm not overly interested in her "adoption" or otherwise, more with her birth and parents, etc. Any assistance or information would be greatfully received. Q98

Hi Q98
Jessie (Janet) was born in Ardrossan in 1899, the illegitimate daughter of Jessie Dickson, domestic servant.
Regards.

Again Monica Many thanks. No wonder I couldn't find her - looking under Jessie and Jessica!
Any idea where her mother was at the 1901 Census?

Loooking just at Ayrshire (too many entries to be able to do anything else) there is only one J* (for Janet or Jessie which are interchangeable in Scotland for that period), age 15-35, and she is married to a Peter Dickson, with young children, so can't be her.
There are no deaths for the period of 1899-1901 either for her in Ayrshire.
In respect of marriages in Ayrshire between 1899-1905, there are 3 for J* Dickson, but they are all Janes.
Regards.
Monica
