Munro's and Watsons
« on: Monday 18 December 06 19:55 GMT (UK) »

Elonor Munro
Was born 1841 at Ardlaw she was the daughter of William Munro and Mary MacDonald

She married William Watson at Pitsligo Free church of Scotland on 18.6.1859

He was the son of William Watson and Elizabeth Shepherd born 1836 at Kirktown of St Furgus

On the marriage certificate both mothers are deceased

Can anyone help me go further with the parents of William and Elonor I have their family

Yes they were and I know they had quite a big family but I cannot find out any more I was wanting William and Elonors parent
What I like about the Scottish certificates it gives you the mothers name and maiden name

Who knows I might find them some day

Hi Elizabeth

Have you checked for the deaths of the parents 1855 to 1859?   If they are there you'll be able to go back to their parents via the info on their death certs.

It would be sad if they had died befor 1855  Sad

Hi There,
I agree with Joeybhoy..
I feel that the 1861c he found is your family.....
Eleanor would have named her first child William..(even though I can't find the birth)
They then had your
Isabella Birnie Watson 9/9/1859.
Alexander Watson 14/8/1861
James Watson 19/4/1864
Munro Watson 26/4/1866
Walter McDonald Watson1/3/1869
Charles Trail Watson 9/6/1871
Eleanor Mary Barclay Watson 9/6/1871
Eleanor Munro Watson 18/9/1872

All born Pitslego.

So the first child would have been Wlliam and I am surprised there isn't a Mary..
If William and Eleanor were living together when baby William was born it is the same as being married...
He isn't showing up as an illegitimate child. ( Mind you he could be)

Now to get back to Eleanor Munro..
I hope you will consider what I have found.

In the 1851c living at Pittendrum Pitslego is a big family of McDonalds.
father is Alexander and the mother is Barbara.
with them  are a lot of McDonald children also is a daughter Eleanora Munro. 9yrs old. (try freecen)

In the 1841c living at the same farm are the same family except that the mother is Margaret....so margaret must die and Alexander marrys barbara.

In the household is their daughter Mary 15yrs old. also William Munro labourer aged 15yrs.
I feel that these  two 15yr old had a love child called Eleanora Munro....and that Mary may have died in child birth or a little later....and that the grandparents have taken the child as their own.....
William would have moved on....

You must remember that new religions were happening around this time and church records are missing...
Regards,
Jo Smiley
UPDATE>>>>>>>>

I think that there is an error in the 1841c for William McDonalds wife.....she should be Barbara like the 1851c.

If you put this batch number in familysearch (C111554) you will see all the children born to Alexander McDonald and Barbara Avens.....including Mary  9/2/1823.

Also in the 1851c Eleanora is supose to have been born Fraserburgh....I had a look at the hugh wallace site and the result was christenings/births are from 1855-1875  and the only other is 1749 to 175? so if Eleanora was in those parish records then she won't show up online.....
but you can order the film at the mormons they have all the records on film....for Fraserburgh..

UPDATE>>>>>>>>>>>>

I have found at first............I thought all that is above should be dismissed ....for I found a posting at
http://www.rosehearty.co.uk/main/guestbook/juldec01.htm
if you search for a posting by Greame Barclay.....it says that Mary McDonald and Peter Barclay had childen at "Red House" Pittendrum....Mary being the Mary above....daughter of Alexander( so I thought oh dear i have made a big mistake) But Now I don't think there is any error....
Mary McDonald probably had baby Eleanora and her parents Alexander and Barbara took her on....as their own..
Mary McDonald married Peter Barclay in 1845, and had a number of children.....In 1861 c Mary has died and Peter has a new wife Jean Park....
So  when Elenor married in 1859 she says her  father is William Munro and her mother was mary McDonald deceased.
She just didn't bother to mention that she was Mary Barclay  maiden name McDonald ..
I can't seem to get into Scotlandspeople at the moment to see if Mary died in 1855 or there abouts....
her last child was William 1854...so you might be very lucky and that she died in 1855 as Mary Barclay /Mcdonald.

Also note that Eleanor Munro and William Watson had a daughter called Eleanor Mary Barclay Watson...

Hope you can follow all this.
Jo

Thank you for this Kenjo

You have the right family born to William and Elonor I picked them up when I first started

I wrote to Edinburgh for Elonor's birth certificate but they had no record there

I got the marriage from them on it is

18th June 1859

William 23 (Kirktown of St Fergus )is a farmservant  his father also William a Crofter his mother Elizabeth Shepherd deceased

Elonor Munro or Monro  18  ( of Ardlaw Pitsligo ) Domestic servant  her father William Munro Shoemaker mother Mary McDonald Deceased

So I may have another family to search for

even the witnesses to the marriage don't give me any help they are a John Smith and George Chessor

Now then Kenjo

you have Shand in your file I see

Isabella Birnie Watson married Adam McKenzie of (Loth West Helmsdale )
they sailed to New Zealand in Sept 1877

they had a daughter Jessie MacKay Mackenzie born 1881
note our spelling of McKenzie has an A in it while in New Zealand

Jessie married Alexander Shand (26) on 27 .10 .1906

I remember him he was Scottish

They had one daughter Isabella who married a Joseph Brown they had no family

Elizabeth Huh Huh Huh

Hi Elizabeth,
Not sure about your Shand,  I have alot of loose ends in my line.

About William Munro....lets scrape the William Munro at the McDonald Farm.

This could be he right one.

1851c
Kirk Hill, Tyrie.

William Rankin
Rachel Rankin
Elizabeth Scott
Georgina Gellen
William Munro 27yrs Journeyman Shoemaker, born Tain, Ross and Cromarty.

____________________________

In the 1841c Mary would have been 18yrs old not 15yrs as she said......( 1841c they could round off their age)

the other thing is in favour of my findings.....re...Eleanora Munro...is that there is no other El* Munro (soundex). on freecen in the 1851c.... Aberdeen

So if you start your search with the  1851c for El* munro.
you will find the same McDonald family...

Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks to gadget...........she could get onto SPeople..and do a quick search for when Mary Barclay/ McDonald died and it was 1858....so that would fit ( I was hoping that it was 1855 soo that her children would be listed).... what would be gained by the 1858 death is where she was buried....

This morning I have been able to log onto SP and I bought the death Cert for your Eleanor Munro/Watson......do you have it.....?
It wasn't any help to me sadly..it only said her mother was Mary McDonald , domestic servant..so at this stage...all I found is just a theory....which could easily be very wrong.....
In my own tree I have strange things like this and some certificates are amazing...I have one that like your Eleanor....marrying....
The details were very clear ...under mothers name .she said she was adopted by Christen and her mother was Annie Shand formally Wallace.
On others I have found no clues in the certificates, even though from other sources there is another tale to be told.
