Edmonds variants in Wexford

My ancestor is  George Gilbert Edmonds  b c1828  in Wexford; he emigrated to Australia and eventually died there.... I'm searching for information about him and his relatives in Ireland around that time. Have had my dna line tested as haplotype G2 (vis http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/e/edmonds/results.html). Is the Edmonds surname common in Wexford? ..... and at what time did the surname first appear in Wexford? .... Does anyone have a G2 dna result with a similar surname? I note that there are also similar sounding surname variants in Wexford such as 'Redmond'.
