Hello folks, I have this gentleman in the 1851: 1851 census William Wright Lodger (married) Corn Chandler aged 48 born Cambridge 223 Shoreditch High Street. Coffee House
I wonder if he appears in the 1841 in Cambridge ? I have found the correct family in 1841 in Shoreditch and think that maybe William (above) has made a mistake about his place of birth in the 1851 census. As he states being born 'in County' in 1841. Or perhaps there are two different William Wrights ? Thanks Brenda

Do you have the 1851 census reference, as I can't find him?
There are numerous William Wrights in Cambs in 1841 whose birth would fit - see the index on the Cambs FHS website at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html

Thanks folks for the replies. I think that my William Wright (don't you just love these uncommon names !!!) may have actually been born in Hackney, London. I have now found a possible birth: possible birth: WILLIAM WRIGHT 26 FEB 1804 Saint John, Hackney, London, England Father: WILLIAM WRIGHT
He definitely married in Hackney:
Marriage William Wright Mary Ann Fuller St John. Hackney 1830
In 1838 the family were living at 16 Goldsmith Row Margaret St Haggerston Shoreditch
1841 census HO107/704/3/24. 7 Goldsmiths Row. Shoreditch. William Wright 30 Corn dealer Mary Ann 30 William 9 Thomas 7 James 5 Alfred 3 John 6 months. Whole family born in county
Possibly by the time the next census was taken in 1851 he was on his own (I can't find his wife or children for sure, although I do have James (my Gt Grandfather). Looking at the area that the family lived in 1841 it would have been at a place named 'Cambridge Heath' which is between Hackney and Bethnal Green. I suspect that this is the 'Cambridge' referred to as being William's birthplace in 1851. The church St John at Hackney would have been very close and I wonder if William was actually born at 'Cambridge Heath' and baptised at Hackney. Although I know that suppositions are not fact I thought that if there was not a William Wright in Cambridge that fiteed then this would make my theories more plausible !!

Having driven along Cambridge Heath Rd quite a few times that was the thought that had occurred to me. Someone born in London doesn't make a mistake of that magnitude, so it's usually an enumeration error. He probably said Cambridge Heath and the enumerator just wrote Cambridge
Cambridge Heath is adjacent to Haggerston and a mile or so south of Hackney

Yes, I think that it was an enumerators error. I shall now state in my tree that my William Wright was born Hackney. I, myself am born and raised in Hackney and know the area very well. Part of Hackney Rd. is Bethnal Green and part is Hackney. This can be quite confusing for people that don't know the area at all. Where Hackney Rd. ends is, I suspect where my William was born. Just where Cambridge Heath station is. I don't know if ever the area around there was known as Cambridge Heath all those years ago, but from my years there that small area was just known simply as 'Cambridge Heath'
