It could be that the clocks (Rootchat and yours) disagree.
Posting on the boards and personal messages also seem to count as the 'time I last posted'.
Putting the kettle on usually fixes it for me.

I did try putting the kettle on even went back to work for an hour or two but it still wouldnt let me reply, glad trystans on the case, will put kettle on again, better not drink tooooo much sandie
