Adam DUDLEY 1760
« on: Sunday 31 December 06 13:18 GMT (UK) »

Can anyone please help me  trace Adam Dudley born 1760 at Chelmarsh, Bridgenorth.. I believe he may have died 31st July 1833 aged 73 and was buried in St. Peters Church, Bridgenorth.
He probably married Ann Walford on 7th. February 1785,in Chelmarsh.
They had a child Richard Dudley, born 1792/3, baptised April 28th. 1783 at Chelmarsh ref.I.G.I. Richard Dudley is my G.G.Grandfather.
The above is the extent of my info on Adam Dudley and his family, did he have any more children? Who were his parents? What work did he and his parents do? What is the back ground of Ann Walford, etc, etc.?
The Dudley family continued to live in the Bridgenorth area  I believe until the early 1900s.
Any help will be gratefully welcome. Eric.

From the IGI, other children of Adam and Ann baptised at Chelmarsh

William 6 Jun 1786
Lucy Ann 12 Jan 1788
John 21 Mar 1789
Sophia Mary 6 Jan 1792
Richard 28 Apr 1793
Samuel 8 May 1795
Adam 4 Mar 1797
Hannah 25 Jun 1799
Thomas 24 Jun 1804
Eliza 25 May 1806

There's also this one, same parents names but at Kinver in Stafford, she just seems to 'fit in'.
Elizabeth 7 Feb 1802

Worth checking the original PRs maybe?Huh?

I have a personal interest in the surname, check out my avie!

Thanks for informative reply ,it all seems to fit in. Iam informed that Adams parents were probablyJohn and Ann Dudley, they were probably married 1749 [ I know not where] I have a John Dudley who may have been the father of Adam1760 who died January 19th 1814 age 89 years old and is buried in St Peters Church, Bridgenorth, this would make his birth around 1725. Have you any info on this or on his family?

There's an Ann Bennet baptism on the IGI at Chelmarsh

18 Jul 1731 to William and Ann

I can't find a baptism for John Dudley at Chelmarsh, in fact the first child with that surname on the PRs seems to be John and Anne's son William in 1750. There aren't any children baptised to any other Dudleys until John and Anne's children become parents themselves. That would make me think that John came from somewhere else and didn't move to Chelmarsh with his family (no record of any of his possible siblings marrying)

Pete appears to have access to local PRs, maybe you could ask him to have a look and see if he can find a John c.1725?

The National Archives have a Will for a Samuel Dudley, carpenter of Chelmarsh dated 1835. It possible that he is the Samuel bap. 1764 to John & Ann. £3.50 to download if you're interested.

Hope the link works!

bit more

Chelmarsh Parish Registers.

07 Feb 1785 Adam Dudley, taylor, and Ann Walford.
W.--Thos. Dudley, Mary Dudley.

There are only 19 listings for a Adam Dudley listed on the Herefordshire disc,  none are listed as having born to a John.
