My brickwall probably traced to W Australia(completed)
« on: Tuesday 02 January 07 12:00 GMT (UK) »

Hi,

I am hoping that somebody can help me with a brickwall which I have been struggling with for over 1 year.

I refer to a previous posting

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,156007.0.html

During the recent free access to Ancestry.com I found but too late somebody who has a family tree with

PERCIVAL LESLIE JOHN CARLY  b abt 1913

Died Woodlands WA

Burial  Cemetery Karakatta Western Australia 1993

This is not a common name so I assume that it relates to the person I am looking for who disappeared from all UK records about 1960.

The member on Ancestry.com is aussierecords 6054 and the ref no is AA2006AA. Unfortunately I cannot contact as I do not have a subsciption to Ancesrty.com.

Can anybody put me in touch, I am on Ancestry.co.uk

Alternatively can anybody access any records for this family. There were 2 daughters both born in the Hampstead area.

Any help which can finally locate this family would be greatly appreciated.

                                Regards
                                                 Geoff

PS My Percival Leslie John Carly was born 1914

His wife was Stella Jane maiden name Magrath

His children  Cynthia G Carly  b 1949 Hendon
                    Cherry Carly       b 1947  Hampstead

Hi Jenn,

Thanks for reply. Unfortunately with 2 daughters the likelihood is that they married so searching the Carly name will probably not be of much help.

I would really like to contact the member who has a family tree on Ancestry.com.

Hi Geoff

There is only one Carly listed on the Karrakatta site so maybe Stella is still living?
I was going to offer check his headstone, but he was cremated  Sad

There is a Carly living in Woodlands listed in the white pages online.  Smiley

Thank you all for your help. Prue I have sent you a pm in the hope that you can make contact.

Jane I will follow up on the Carly in Woodlands , in case Stella Jane Carly is still alive.

What I really need is marriage details of the 2 daughters. Is there any way of tracing marriages in W Australia around the 1970 period.

Thanks again

Jane, the Carly living in Woodlands seems to be the wife of Percival.

She is listed as Stella I Carly and my records show Stella J Carly. My only problem now is, how to approach an elderly lady out of the blue. She was born in 1919 so will be 86/87. If I could only find the daughters?.

Thanks again

Hi Geoff

WA marriage index only goes to 1965 for privacy reasons (available on microfiche or at Battye Library), and online only to 1905  Sad

I'd suggest writing to Stella, if it is her, might be better than a phone call out of the blue (if that was what you were thinking?).  It may be worth contacting all the Perth Carly listings, there's always a chance one of the daughters is still using her maiden name.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance, although if I get the chance to go to the State Library I check the indices for you.

Hi Geoff

Next time I go to the State Library, I'll check the WA newspapers for death notice for Percival.  May be able to gleam surnames of the daughters that way.

The other option is to check for a will, someone in WA maybe able to do this for you.

regards

Hello Geoff  Smiley

A message has been duly posted to the person on Ancestry.com re Percival CARLY.  I will let you know when/if I get a reply.

I am a bit suspicious, though, about whether or not the person actually has any more info about old Percival.  I had a good look at their submissions to the Ancestry world tree, and they seem to be alot of unconnected people...there are thousands upon thousands of names in their index, and the few that I checked all seemed to be buried at Karrakatta cem, so perhaps this person has just dumped burial info into a database and posted it?  Don't know.  Hopefully all will soon be revealed  Wink Smiley

Thanks again to everybody for their very kind help.

I think a letter to Stella is my best option, but fear it might just get me against another brickwall.

All the offers for help are much appreciated.

Hi Geoff,

I'll be spending the day at the WA library tomorrow. Would you like me to check the newspapers for his death notices?
