From one little nut grew the mighty oak tree
|
Hello
I recently discovered my GG Grandparents on the 1861 Census living at Keir St, Kirkintilloch but as yet have not been able to pinpoint the exact location of the Street.
I believe that Kirkintilloch now comes under East Dumbartonshire area but am not sure if that was always the case.
I would sincerely appreciate if anyone could point me in the right direction here !
Thankyou, Debbie

Are you sure it was Keir Street? There's a Kerr St in Kirkintilloch
Just enter "kerr street kirkintilloch" into google maps - http://maps.google.co.uk/

Hi there. I lived in Kirkintilloch and still work there for the Local Authority. Kerr Street is right in the town centre. There is an old church there but I don't think it is used as that anymore.
You are right that it now comes under East Dunbartonshire Council. Prior to 1996 it was under Strathkelvin District Council and prior to that Kirkintilloch Burgh Council.
If I can be of any other help to you on Kirkintilloch, please just let me know.
Linda
