Hi

Does anyone know the history of this place.

I have a family of Surgeons that originally come from Shrivenham, so thought likely if was in existance in the late 1700's they may have had a connection.

Thanks

The college moved there quite recently, so there won't be any connection I'm afraid. (My father worked there twice and I don't remember any old buildings, although the general did live in a very nice old house in the village of Shrivenham (the camp being on the edge)).

Thanks Richard

I did note from the web site they had been going sine 1776, but it was not clear if there had been a facility there since then or not.

I don't really see a connection between a surgeon and the army unless he was in the service himself. RMC Shrivenham was an army training school until they got all fancy and it became a college of the University of Cranfield (former RAF school). I would guess it was founded well into the C20th.

The link back to 1772 is probably to some artillery school at Woolwich or somesuch.

Beckett Hall at Shrivenham the basis of the the college was acquired by the War Office in 1938 for use as an artillery trainig school.  During WW2 it was a cadet training school and was established as an officer training college in 1948.
