HHHHEEEEELLLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!!!
Right I have a website - www.freewebs.com/thetiesthatbindburnsandthomas and I have rootschat webspace.
But .......... I don't know how to get the freewebs one onto the RC one.
Now you have to remember that I am even worse than a beginner when it comes to websites. I only managed the freewebs one because you type and click done and its all done for you
Can anyone tell me a 1 2 3 step way of doing this please
Carol

Berlin-Bob has covered this here:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,93490.msg397244.html#msg397244
I am assuming that you have an off-line copy of your site?
If you're stuck having read Bob's tutorial, ask again.
Good luck

Thanks Julian
Well I went there and managed to get the File manager open, read Bob's tutorial and downloaded Coffee Cup and followed the instructions word by word. Won't connect to the site and cannot get the File Manager to work either
Will I ever get this website off the ground so it is out there properly?

That's probably the easiest way.
If you created your site directly onto freewebs, then just download the whole site into a folder on your computer, and the upload it from there to the new site.
Some people use a family history program or Net Objects Fusion, or other programs to create a site, first of all in a folder on the computer, and then upload that to the website. You can then view it offline as well (see tutorial)
good luck, Bob

Hi Carol,
Quiet period in your business I suppose? Good then you will have lots of patience - you will need it when you start - but the rewards are great!!
The first thing is don't panic! Have a look here and numerous other places to see what I went through before getting my site up and running: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,35896.0.html
Is it 2 years ago - doesn't time fly - and I posted another query today - which has been answered by Bob and many others - so keep at it.
Cheers
Keith

2 YEARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
MY GOD I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG!!!
Sorry for the shouting but that was one heck of a surprise there - do i have to wait that long?
What if i give someone all the details of both websites and they do it for me?
Anyone out there want some work for 2 years?
Only joking though haven't got that much spare time
I have copied and pasted each page from my free webs site so now what do I do?
Carol
Ps my coffee cup won't work - No not the ceramic one that is constantly being refilled by hubby! The programme Bob suggested

I thought I said "don't panic"
My site was up and running the same day as I asked the question - it's been running for 2 years!!
Not sure about the coffee cup - but to transfer you need your Rootschat website name and password - then all you do is "click away"
Now you see I can even answer the odd question
The questions I now ask are (slightly) more complicated and are really just final touches to pages.

I think any files that ran on one website - will run on another.
You just need to uploaded them all to your RC site.

Hi Carol,
in general, unless you are programming in perl, php, asp or various other "technical" things, your website will be in HTML.
If you downlaoaded from another website, it will definitely be in HTML and should run on any other website.
Files will end either in .html or .htm and there must be either an index.html or index.htm there.

Okay here we go again
I have created a website with rootsmagic (not a brilliant one I may say) but had to make up a child for me and hubby so that it would include both sides of the family which is what my freewebs one does
Anyway am now copying that through the FTP (coffeecup) and will see what happens next
Now it says on the rootschat website home page (thetiesthatbind.rootschat.net ) that I have to overwrite the index.html (?) to view the site
What do I overwrite it with ? Website name?
Thanks so much for all your help
Carol
PS where do I get templates for the site?

I think I may be getting there (hysterical laughter )
I have copied and pasted everything to frontpage and published to the web using my rootschat website address. It is still downloading at the moment but when I checked to see what was happening in the website i found just a home page and nothing else - no buttons as yet.
So it looks like I am on the right road - might have to insert buttons and then publish it again
But at least it is getting there slowly but surely
Just have to figure out how to edit etc and add images (alresy seen the topic for that one)
Thanks for you r help

BRILLIANT!!
Well done - told you it was easy
Only problem seems that I can't put anything in your guestbook - minor point - at least you will not get any spam!!
Cheers

Great - you've got there - looks in pretty good shape (except the guest book as Keith has mentioned - plenty of time to sort that).
And it didn't take two years
