Theadore Olson
« on: Friday 05 January 07 19:13 GMT (UK) »

Hi there,
I am new to this.  I am looking for some information on my Gr uncle. He left Sweden in May 1907,  His ship was the Hellig Olaf.  Arrived in the US on the 15th May, 1907.  His birth date was 22 Feb 1889, and he died in Iowa, 1977.
His wife was Maime. Born in Sweden in 1890 and died in 1994  -  104 years old !! Also in Iowa.   They had one son  Robert.  Born 1914-1915.  Died in 1977.

I would like to know if Robert had family.  Maimie must have made the newpapers reaching 104.  I have had this information off a Swedish site.

Any help would be much appreciated

Chris,

Here is a link to the library in the town they lived in in 1930

http://www.newton.lib.ia.us/

It might have an obit for Maime. The information you found on the Swedish site -- did it give the town where Maime was living? or Theodore? Or Robert? I found Robert's enlistment record for WWII. He enlisted 5 Jan 1943 and was living in Jasper, Iowa (which is where Newton is). Is says he is already married, but there is no access to the actual record.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Hi Chris

Do you have Theodore's WWI draft index card?

It shows his name as John Theodore Olson, born February 22 1889, Malmo?, Sweden
His occupation is shown as Moulder, working for Stevio? Bros., MFG. Co., Newton Jasper, Iowa
his dependants are wife and baby and the family residence is shown as 902 S.5 Ave, Newton, Iowa

The family are shown on the 1920 census, living at 408 3rd Ave. SE, Newton Ward 3, Jasper, Iowa

John T Olson, age 29, Mamie A, age 28 and Robert T, age 4years and 4 months. John (Theodore) occupation is shown as Molder, Maytag? Factory and his naturalization date is shown as 1912.

Also in the Social Security Death Index, he is shown as John Olson, last residence, Newton Jasper, Iowa and died April 1977.

Noooooooo Chris  Embarrassed I along with so many others, just have this determination. It could well be called pigheaded  Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin

So.....found Robert in the SSDI,

Robert Olson, born 12th August 1915
Last Benefit was in Newton, Jasper, Iowa
He died October 1976

Therefore, I am convinced that this is Robert on a 1926 passenger list.

Ship, Drottningholm arrived New York 20th September 1926, departed Gothenburg, Sweden 11th September 1926

Martha Olson, age 49, 511 Seddon Ave, Braddock, PA
Naemi (spelling mistake ?) Olson, age 36, 702 E. 9th ST. Newton IA
Robert Olson, age 9, born August 12th 1916 in Des Moines, IA

I am not sure where Martha fits in with this family but I have found her in the 1920 census in Pennsylvania.

There are no other Olson's born Sweden, in Newton, Jasper, Iowa in the 1930 census and very few Olson's in the telephone lists but I have found a few and will send you a PM

Best wishes
