I have been given the address of a brilliant website about the William Pit disaster, with forum and other pits included.  It's well worth a look

Hi

If anyone knows anyone whose family was involved in the William Pit disaster please contact them and ask if they will help Amanda.

It really is a worthwhile cause, someone very dear to me lost their dad and he has spoken at length to Amanda.

Everyone who was involved was a hero and there names and memories should be remembered forever.

Regards

Hi, My grandmothers cousin James Weighman was one of the three survivors from the pit disaster. while researching my tree I found this out from another relative and was very keen to speak to him but have been unable to find his details. I e-mailed a reporter who had worked on the ?50th anniversary tribute and she said that he had refused to take part in it. I think he is still alive and living in whitehaven and would love to know if he had any information on my grandmother eg early photos etc. Cass

Hi Cass

What a great pity that you are not in contact with him, even if he dosen't want to talk about it.

I would imagine that there would be a great sense of relief at the time, but he must wondered "why not me" after a while, especially when so many of his colleagues and friends were suddenly not there anymore.

I have an elderly aunt who shut out her horrendous childhood to such an extent that when I inocently mentioned to her son that it was a pity her brother had died so young, he hadn't even been told that she had one..........

Different people handle different things in different ways.

Regards
