Looking for any information on Elizabeth Ponting who married Joseph Brittain-Britten on 18 Nov 1822 Bremhill Looking for birth, death date and parents I have 8 children for them but there could be more as dates are spread any help would be appreciated

This seems to be the family in 1841
Wiltshire Calne parish HO107/1168/5 8/8 Address Studley (at top of Page Studley Tithing)
Joseph Brittain 35 ag lab
Elizabeth do 35
Mary Do 15
Wm Do 15
Henry do 10
Ann do 7
Eleanor do 5
Jane do 1
Emma Wilson 50
All born in parish (I think, the Ys and Ns look rather similar - possible N Elizabeth and Mary)

The IGI has extracted records for
Mary christened 1823 Bremhill
William 1826 Bremhill
Henry 1828 Bremhill
Jane 1831 - Bremhill - died 1832
Anne 1833 Bremhill

A submitted record for an Eleanor 1836 Calne
Extracted for Jane 1840 Calne (this batch being one of their favorite Female only batches) so there is a submitted record for Joseph 1843
which seems to be the 8 children - I will check for 1851

1851 shows Elizabeth a widow. No sign of Joseph Jnr, but there is a daughter Caroline

HO107/1837  221/19 Studley Calne Wiltshire
Elizabeth Brittain head W 46 Laundress Wilts Calne
Ann Brittain daur U 19 Wilts Calne
Jane do daur 11 scholar Wilts Calne
Caroline do daur 4 Wilts Calne

FreeBDM should give some information re Caroline and Joseph Jnr & perhaps the death of Joseph Snr

There are many children registered in Calne 1841-1851. There is a Joseph Mar Qtr 1843 and a Caroline Mar 1848. The parish register (if anyone has access to same ) would help with Parents. If you are near a LDS Family centre, they have film of same (having transcribed some of the females!)

There is a Joseph died Sep 1843 Jun 1844 and another Mar 1849 - unfortunately no ages on the index at this time.

There is an extracted IGI record for Joseph Britten parents Robert Britten and Elizabeth - christened 9 May 1802 Bremhill - which fits with the rounded down age in 1841.

Also Elizabeth Ponting christened 5 Jul 1807, Bremhill, which makes her slightly younger than as per 1851 - but she may have added a couple of years when she married  Smiley - or she may have been baptised well after birth.

gee thanks for all tha information the birth date of some of the children don't match the census but they are close enough. Did you find any parents for Elizabeth Ponting. I was told by a relative that Joseph had a 2nd wife a Rachel Brown I haven't varified it yet.

I should have given the IGI link - if you haven't seen it - the most comprehensive place on the net for parish records

extracted - means the record is taken from  a parish record
submitted means a LDS church member has provided the information and it may/may not be correct (no way to know - except to find a parish record  Smiley )

You can check yourself for the parents of Elizabeth (if it is  is the correct record that I found - search for Elizabeth Ponting born 1807 Wiltshire)

In 1841, all census ages for adults are rounded down to the nearest 5 years.

It seems most unlikely that Joseph had a second wife  Huh He married Elizabeth in 1822, when he was perhaps 20 years old (unlikely to have married before) and he died before Elizabeth (the W in 1851 indicates she is a Widow). There could well be a cousin around at the time, with the same name.
