I've hit a brick wall with my Ramsays. From the Old Parochial Register in the Parish of Belhelvie I do know that William Ramsay married Helen Laing in 1841. William was described as being from Tarves. He was born about 1819, as he was shown as being 22 years of age in the 1841 Aberdeen census.
I haven't been able to trace his parents or find a death record for him. His daughter, Helen, married in 1865 and he was shown as deceased at that time. I can't find him in any census after 1841 so he could have died before 1851. Any William Ramsays I've checked for death records hasn't proven to be him so far. I'm thinking a search for an MI may be the last resort. By chance can anyone help me? Thanks, Jim

Hello Jim,
No further forward with your search. Just lost a couple of hours of my life on it though :O)
Have been on the IGI (www.familysearch.org) - searched for Wm Willm and all combinations 1815 =/- 10 years - there's about 300 in Scotland. None 'your' one. I'd have expected his his parents to have been called Alexander and Helen - if William and Helen had followed the Scottish naming pattern with their 2 children. - found on IGI - were there more?
Had a look on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for birth of a William Ramsay in Aberdeenshire from 1810 to 1822 - there are apparently 4. Didn't have the credits to look them up. (blame the house extension :O) The reason for the date range is that sometimes people - both men and women -would be economical with ages - especially if marrying a younger spouse.
They had 2 children (according to the IGI):
2. Alexander Ramsay b. 14 Oct 1843, c. 09 Nov1843 - Belhelvie, Aberdeenshire Scotland
1. Helen Ramsay b. 09 Feb 1841, c. 07 Mar 1841, Belhelvie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
The 1841 census shows the parents in Catto Court, Aberdeen, William (22) Helen (19) and a 4 months old Helen jnr. No occupation given for the adults. They were in St Clements parish which is in Aberdeen City. Folio 1 - Page 19.
Belhelvie parish where the children were christened and where Helen (snr) is buried is to the north of the cty.

It is a strong possibility that as UglyDuckling found Helens burial site in Belhelvie Kirkyard, that your William would be buried or at least acknowledged on the gravestone.
