« on: Monday 08 January 07 20:27 UTC (UK) »

Dr. Thomas Armstrong, Collooney died 3 July 1846 age 38.

Thomas Hamilton 'of constabulary' married at Collooney Church to Frances Mary Armstrong in 1858, daughter of Dr. William Armstrong & Frances Haire.

1829-1840 Dr. William Armstrong living at Foyle St., Derry. In 1858 Dr. William Armstrong was living at Collooney. He died 14 Aug.1860.

Interested in any information on these people to sort out 'mystery' Bible found in our house.

Hello aghadowey,

The two Doctors must have attended a Medical School and a University. At a rough guess I'd say they received that part of their education in Dublin or Scotland.

As the Armstrongs seem to have been Church of Ireland Dublin, or even London, more likely than Edinburgh.
A few days ago found in 1911 census that another Armstrong child listed in the Bible was also a Church of Ireland minister and with him at that time were Hamilton niece and nephew with the nephew given as 'master mariner.' Am now wondering if that Rev. James Armstrong or the younger relations had the Bible we have and somehow it came into our house.

Hi aghadowey,

That's thrown the search wide open. I was thinking of Dublin and Glasgow. Belfast may as well be added to the list of possible places where the Doctors studied. Were they Doctors of Divinity or Medicine?

So far two medical doctors and one rector. Because Dr. Thomas Armstrong died 1946 age 38 think Dublin is most likely.
