Firefox - how do I edit page source?

Hi All,

Having just installed Firefox ver 2 - I now want to try and work with it!

I can "View" the page source - but can't get into it to edit - bet it's simple - but not to me  Wink

I can't either, not even mentioned in the help

what I have been doing is editing in another programme I installed.

Or I open the page in IE 6 or 7 and edit through there if I don't want to open the other programme.

no-one can edit!!! An add on they mention wouldn't work for me. You need to know several paths in your computer to edit each file....  Huh

Right clicking on the file name in windows explorer gives me the option of opening with notepad, which is all that IE does

That's the only way that I've found how to do it - Save as, then open source with whatever prog you wish and edit - but it's more secure and faster than IE - and the big boys use it  Cheesy

"Control U" brings up the source code and then click on file and "save as" .... you can then edit the saved file in your preferred editor

Control U is a new one to me.
I suppose somewhere there is a list of "shortcuts"?

A plug-in I have just discovered for Firefox allows you to edit source code just as in IE.

I just looked at MOZEX and found that it is only compatible with older versions of Firefox.

Have there been any further more recent developments which can be used with Firefox 3.5.2?

Mozex which was compatible with all versions of Firefox prior to the current 3.5.2, unfortunately does not seem to be getting developed any further.

Of the six or seven editors previously available none seem to be getting developed any further.

Firebug is a possibility

There are a couple of other addons which are still in the experimental stage "Phoenix" and "Edit & Paste" but it may be better to wait for the testing stages to be completed on these.

An older add on  - Nandu which had stopped development some time ago (pre version 2 of FF) has been hacked to fool FF 3.5.2 into accepting it as a valid add-on

Instructions and the Nandu xpi file can be found at http://schuppenwurz.freehostia.com/nandu.html

One drawback is that nandu will only work on files/pages saved to your computer first.
