Thanks for the suggestions.  It seems odd that whilst Firefox has lots of fancy add-ons, coloured tabs, fancy menus etc, it is so poorly supported in what would seem to be a fundamental tool.  Watch and wait?

Given the lack of support for this function it is obviously not considered a fundamental tool by the FF "community" -

On a purely personal level  I tend to agree and would rather use a dedicated programme for editing source material.
