Stourbridge query
« on: Wednesday 10 January 07 14:33 GMT (UK) »

Can one of you knowledgeable people tell me if Stourbridge is in Staffordshire or Worcestershire ?  According to the birth index, my ancestor was born in Stourbridge, Staffs., in 1878 as was his wife.  Ancestry repeatedly gives other births as taking place in Stourbridge, Worcester.

Many thanks Tazzie,

From a Genuki map, Stourbridge lies just within the boundary of Worcestershire.
This is also confirmed by The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868):-

"Stourbridge, a post and market town in the parish of Old Swinford, lower division of Halfshire hundred, county Worcester ........"
Thank you again for responding.

Thank you EBN.  I think we're all agreed that it's in Worcestershire.  Tonight, I shall sleep  Grin Grin
