Hi - Looking for any info at all about Elizabeth (Betsy) and Margaret Minikin born Manchester about 1825-30. In 1841 the sisters are listed in the household of John and Mary Fletcher in Churchgate, Stockport, I have no idea if there is any relationship between the Fletchers and Minikin's.
Mary Fletcher is 31, the girls are 14 and 12, she could be the mother, but in the 1851 census the girls show up in a Swindells household in Stockport as visitors, the Fletchers are alone, and this is very close to Elizabeths marriage to James Bolton in Stockport. Margaret looks to have already married, her surname is given as Grafton. I think they may have been orphans.
The Bolton family end up living in Salford, and there are links to John Ritchie born Ireland, and a Liverpool family descending from Isaac Foulkes (blacksmith).
My Pownall family lived most of the last century living at the end of Reddish Lane where it joins Hyde Road, and there were links to Howards in Reddish, Both families lead back to Macclesfield.
happy to hear of anything cheers fred

Celia thanks so much, my cousin lives in Stockport, I'll let her get involved if she wishes to take things any further. I only guessed that Margaret was a sister, she could just be a cousin. an unusual name Minikin, I wonder where it originates, Ireland? cheers fred

Hi Celia - You've set me a problem now. I found Thomas, Barbara, and a football team of kids including Elizabeth in the 1841 census, so who are the two girls in Stockport? and which Elizabeth is the right one.
Elizabeth Minikin married James Bolton in Stockport, and from the age given at each census (23,33,43.)her birth should be 1828, and they continue to live in Stockport , and only 20 or 30 years later do they move to Salford.
Thanks for your help, I prefer mysteries. Fred
