I know we aren't following backwards but just in case the enumerator in 1901 got it right, I wondered whether Emily had been married previously and had actually started life as a Cottrill, but it wouldn't seem so, she seems to have been a Richards in 1891 if I have the right family, and no Cottrills in sight anyway. I'm suspecting the reason why they have been enumerated in 1901 as "daughter" and grandchildren, is because they are still living in her parents house while they aren't present themselves.
It seems as if she may have had an interesting life herself ....
1891 - 74 Rockfield Road, Walton on the Hill, Liverpool Robert Richards Head M 56 Insurance? Agent ?? Lancashire Anora Wife M 50 Liverpool Emily daur S 28 Professor of Music Liverpool Waltor son M 25 Ship's Steward Liverpool Robert W Son S 21 Insurance AGent New York USA Alice daur 17 New York USA RG12/2979; Folio 61; Page 22
Writing isn't so good so not positive about the father's occupation and I have no idea where in Lancashire his birthplace is. But at least it confirms the 1901 details.

The only birth I can find is for a Nora May Stead recorded in West Derby in 1893, but the 1901 census leads me to think it's not her & I can't find one in 1894 in Liverpool Blimey this will teach me to read more carefully - Wendi, do I take it you ain't a scouser then?
Nora(h) was 7 in 1901 so 1893 would be more or less perfect, I suppose depending on the particular dae of her birthday and West Derby IS the Registration District which would cover Everton/Anfield and a large part of Liverpool, so that's perfect.

Wendi, do I take it you ain't a scouser then?
Your right but I was more going by the fact that the census said "Liverpool"........if we are going further a field there is also a Norah Stead 1884 registered in Ormskirk - but with no middle name. They are my two best bets, but I can't find a marriage anyway
They must have some next of kin somewhere

Noooooooo, West Derby is PERFECT!!! That is the correct one.
Now let's see how many votes I get for my alternative choice of activities for this afternoon ......
I can either
1. Take a trip to Anfield and photograph 67 Watford Road and even continue and get a picture of Grange Lane, Gateacre, although I have not idea whether "The Cot" still exists.
OR
2. I can do some laundry ...............
Guess I'm going to see you all later!
Bye for now

Well Monty and me went on an adventure, Monty? my Chrissie pressie from mum, Monty
The first one is 67 Watford Road. The church is St. Stephens, Gateacre, I wonder whether Robert and Elizabeth might have attended there and would his funeral have been from there?
After that although I found Grange Cottages and Grange Mews, I couldn't find one with the name The Cot. So these being of about the right age, here is a picture to give you an idea that there is a small part of Gateacre and Belle Vale which is still villagey. They are very close to Paradise Row and Soarer Cottages, there are pictures of them on this site. Gateacre and you will also find out about the Wilson Memorial Fountain which stands on Gateacre Village Green, which is my last photograph. So much for a "Green", my photograph was taken while stopped at the traffic lights!!!
I wondered whether it might have been a house which came with a job, but I think the details in the Probate Index would suggest that this was a step up for them from Everton.

It's lovely to hear from you Michel, welcome to Rootschat, we're a friendly bunch.
I've no idea whether we might find a descendant but I know one of your wishes was to see where he had lived and now you have photographs, so that's nice.
Annie, I think you should be posting on the Liverpool Echo messageboard, I know people have had some luck there.

I don't think links to websites work though, so use an email address carefully!!
