Looks like the National Probate Index that retiringtype found was correct !!  Wink Cheesy

Robert's widow was Elizabeth Neil Stead !!

I have search results on NA http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/main.asp?wci=welcome

for  Emily Stead aged 38 and Robert W Stead aged 5, both born Liverpool,  in Walton-on-the Hill in 1901. No sign of them at all on A****try, as far as I can see.

grrr - I'd looked under Robert HEAD.  I hadn't thought of Robet.

I would have transcribed it as HEAD too, but I think it says STEAD.  The ST is like the St in St Judes.

OK it's a badly written Stead but there's no excuse for Robet Well done Julia - good sleuthing!

There's lots of  inlaws in this census entry too - a rich seam.
