I have John Kershaw 1768-1838 married to Sarah b. Stalybridge 1787 d. 1873 AuL.
They had two children, and probably/possibly, more - James 1817 Stalybridge & Hannah 1820 AuL. James didn't marry; Hannah married John Chadwick, a very successful cotton mill owner.
I've tracked all 3 through the relevant census returns.
Some web hits suggest Sarah is his second wife which leads to my supposition:
John Chadwick's brother Thomas (1811-1855) married Mary Marlor in 1836 in Manchester Cathedral and she gave birth to another Edward in 1841 who went on to marry Mary Kershaw b 1840 AuL.
Mary was the daughter of Ralph b 1797 (IGI has place as Staley which I assume is Stalybridge) and Alice b. abt 1801 AuL (1851 census).
Ralph appears to be the son of John and Hannah - I say appear since my only source is IGI - which is leading me to think that Hannah was the first wife and then he married Sarah.
I hate to rely on IGI so any help to square the circle would be much appreciated.
