Can anyone help with this place name

I think this is probably somewhere in the Appleby/ Kirkby Stephen area.

I don't think it's Little Musgrave. It looks like Little Mayberry

Yes that's a nice old map.

The person in question was baptised at Crosby Garrett so the birthplace could well have been Little Musgrave. It doesn't look much like Musgrave but this census sheet is from Lambeth in 1851 and the enumerator is unlikely to be familiar with Westmorland village names.

Brian, there's no sign of him (Christopher Folder b. 1785) on the 1861 census - I think he must have died before then.

I don't think it says Little.  If you look at the L in other words it is not at all similar.    Have you asked the experts at Kendal record office what they think?   They will know all the local hamlets.  I have been in that area frequently and can't think of a suitable one!   If his sister was born in Appleby it may be a tiny place nearby.   Crosby Garret is very small - it could even be a house name up on the fell.   Did he own property?  Where did his money come from?  A will might help here.
You can search all the deaths on ancestry.co.uk.  Choose the full version.

I agree with Andrea - it doesn't look like 'Little'.

I can see what looks like 'After' (unlikely, I know) but I may be confused by the top of the 'M' underneath.

Very odd......

I'd go for 'Mayberry' rather than 'Musgrave', for what it's worth!

Good luck with your research.
