Farmers in 1882?
« on: Tuesday 16 January 07 17:17 UTC (UK) »

Is it possible to trace someone who was a farmer in 1882,  possibly in the Belfast/Ballemena area at all please?

Perhaps he was also a farmer before and after 1882?

Many thanks for any advice.

I also have the same question.  My greatgrandmother father, William Milling (Millen), was listed as a farmer on her marriage certificate in 1897 which took place at St Andrews Church of Ireland, a Protestent denomination.  How many farms were located and were people inclined to be known for renting thwmselves out or become sharecroppers in Belfast at this time and did people travel great distances to become members and continue to attend church

"on her marriage certificate"  meaning his daughter, Catherine Milling to William Hugh Elliott.

First of all, the residence given on the marriage certificate is the residence of the bride at the time of the marriage. It may not be the place she was born or where her family lived.
By 1897 there were probably very few farms in Belfast itself but Catherine could have moved to Belfast to work and her family lived somewhere outside the area.
Have you searched for Catherine's father in 1911 census yet? 1901 census will eventually be added to the site.
