Hi Pauline and Robin Hood
Thanks for the info
F W K stands for "Frame Work Knitter" and there is a working museum at Cromford Derbyshire well worth a visit to see the kind of jobs done in the Mills - the museum is also part of a shopping centre and would make an idea place to look for Xmas presents
Yes I would like the info from 1861 and 1841
Many thanks again to you both
Peter

hello
Thanks Robin for the info
Notts 1841 Piece 865 -39Carlton Spelling Britle. John Head 30 Yrs FWK, Elizabeth 25 Yrs, William 8, Henry 5, Christopher 3 John 1, John 70.
In the above there is a John aged 70 - what relationship is he to the head of family??
Do you have access to the family data going back to 1750
A question - Ancestry.co.uk - how reliable is the data in the censuses they offer - OR - is it better to purchase a particular census for an area and do the research with these??
Many Thanks Peter

Hi Peter
The 1841 Census does not give relationships so there is no telling exactly who John snr is. I omitted to include the fact that all are born in Notts, which is indicated by Y/N on the census.
I have the Notts FHS Indexes which show the surname Brittles in that area back to the date I gave. There are no gaurentees that some of these are your family. Some of this information will be on Ancestry and Family Search, but there are many mistrancriptions for all these including my reading of a scan.
I cannot find a likely christening for John Jnr on my Indexes
