Sayer (s)

Hello, Iam looking for any information on the Sayer family of Kirby Knowle, particularly: Jonas Sayer who was born about 1801 and was married to Ann who was born about 1797 in the Foxton area. Does anybody recognise Jonas, was he born in Kirby Knowle? What was Ann's maiden name? Their children were: Mary born 1824 in Felixkirk John 1826 Kirby Knowle William 1830 Kirby Knowle (my ggg grandfather) Hannah born 1834 Kirby Knowle Elizabeth born 1836 Kirby Knowle Thomas born 1839 Kirby Knowle George born 1841 Kirby Knowle. Jonas was alive in 1841 and was working as a ag lab in Kirby Knowle. He had died before 1851. Ann, his wife died some time after 1881.
Thanks

I'm not sure whether this will help or not. Anyway, I found the family that you mentioned in the 1841 census and I saw that Ann was listed as being aged 35 so according to this she was born between 1801 and 1806 - a little later than you mentioned. William isn't listed though all the other children are.
Then in 1851 I tried to track down any of them (I was really hoping to find a child staying with a maternal uncle or grandparents - long shot I know). However, I found a family in Kirby Knowle, listed as called SANE, but I think it looks like SAERE.

The names, dates and places of birth seemed so coincidental with your list. There's also Elizabeth nearby living as a 14 year old servant. She's clearly listed as SAYER.

Hi Isabel, Thanks so much, this looks like the right family. I couldnt find them on the 1851 census, so that's a great help! Sue

Hi Sue
The IGI has the following two entries which may be of interest
Christening 30/07/1797 Felixkirk Jonah Sayer (Father John Sayer) Batch C105212
Marriage 21/11/1823 Leake, Yorkshire Jonah Sayer Ann Smith Batch M040551
These both look very much like your ancestors. The 1841 entry calling him Jonas is incorrect his name was Jonah.
This looks like his death registration
1856 Thirsk JAS quarter 9d 219
Jonah Sayer
I hope that is of some use to you.
DS
