I am trying to trace Martin William Russell and his father and mother. I have his death certificate which states he was born in Cook Town Queenstown. I know he lived in Western Australia, and married Ethel Busch there. His DOB is, I believe 8/7/1877.
He died in NSW in 1954 during a visit to Sydney. His mother on the DC is Ellen Mary - , and his father William Russell.
I have no idea of where his parents came from, whether they were married in Queensland, or emigrated (or transported for that matter).
Any help would be appreciated.
Annette

Hi Annette, I hope to go to the Qld State Archives this week sometime to do a couple of lookups for rootschatters. I can take a look at the immigration indexes for your people if you'd like.

Hi again, I may not have to .... is this your family?
RUSSELL ship: Stracathro arr Qld: 3 Sept 1882 IMM/117 film: M1699
William age 30 Ellen age 30 Wm age 5 Geo age 3 Ellen inf
Here they are:
http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/research/index/immigration.asp#immigrationindexes
Just a possible as I didn't know their ages. If you've got Martin's age correct, these may be the wrong people. What do you think?

Hi Ruskie,
I believe I have the date correct. It was in my mother-in-laws birthday book, and he was her father. It also states on his DC that he was 76 at his death in 1954.
So it is probably not them, unfortunately.
Unless she had another child of course, but I think she might have been too old.
Thanks
Annette

That's fine - I'll have a look at the Archives for you. Do you have any approximate dates of birth for the parents (I suppose they may even have been born in Australia?) or do you know of any other children and their dates of birth. With a common name, this may help identify them.

HI all
That birth and marriage look very much like it. My informant re dates was pretty confusing over the phone, as the birthday book was full of William'es, so the actual day/month may be wrong but it fits into the time frame.
Jadewing, can you tell from the Qld Colonial Links where Martin William's birth was registered? The surname Lottre is a bit unusual though.
If anyone can help with how they got to Qld and then to WA, it would be great.
I think I have details of the burials of Ellen and William in WA.
Ruskie, I had a bit of a look at the WA Justice Dept, BMD and could not see any children born to this couple in WA, but In wouldn't vouch for it.
Thanks again
Annette

The Qld reference numbers given indicate outside of Brisbane (Brisbane register entries contain a B). As far as I know there is no other information on the indexes related to location - so it could be 20 miles from Brisbane or 2000 miles away

Hi Annette,
Gee, for some reason I didn't receive any notifications of this topic! That's no good.
I see there has been some progress. I was wanted to let you know that I won't be able to get to the Archives till next week now. Busy time with the end of the school holidays and lots to organize. I'll have plenty of time next week when the little darlings are back at school, so I will go then.
Would you still like me to check the immigration indexes/cards?

Hi Annette, I went to the archives today but sorry, no luck finding your family in the immigration indexes, either in the books or cards. I couldn't find any Lottre immigrations either. Sorry about that.

Thanks Ruskie
Your time and effort much appreciated. Have sent for the Lottre/Russell marriage certificate, so that might help.
