Hi All,
I trying to find any/all of the following address on any map. They existed in the late1700's but I am unable to locate any of these places, even on OldMaps.
Location 1: Cary Street, St Clement Danes London Location 2: 5 Shaw's Garden, St Giles Location 3: Daubigne's Place, Pentonville
I will admit that my map reading skills are lacking somewhat - so apologies if these places actually exist and I'm just not looking properly.
Thanks
Di

Not so strong on London geography, is Pentonville anywhere near Tottenham ??
I found Daubeney Gardens, Tottenham N17 [1997] Daubeney Road, Tottenham N17 [1997] (allowing for anglicisation of the name , maybe ?)
in the Victorian A-Z http://homepage.ntlworld.com/hitch/gendocs/lon-str.html

Newfy - that site has been gone for at least a year, and it's a damn shame too, because it was brilliant Maybe if someone has a cached version we could contact the original owners and Rootschat could host the site? Just a thought!
The main replacement that I've used (admittedly later than you are looking for, Di) is the Victorian London A-Z Street Index at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/hitch/gendocs/lon-str.html
There are others available via GENUKI: http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/genuki/LND/#Gazetteers
Hope that helps!

P.S. Oh, "snap", Bob!

You are welcome Di, being an exile cockney, now in Spain I have spent the morning trying to track the other two. I used Mapquest site to find them. Although St Giles is easy to find Shaws Garden, if it still exists, is too small a street to be named. I had absolutely no luck with Danbignes Place. I wonder if a letter to the local authorities would prove helpful?
Regards Paul

Hi Di, I knew there was another map somewhere but it took me this long to remember where it was! Greenwood's 1827 map of London:
http://users.bathspa.ac.uk/greenwood/
I found St Giles church in the very bottom right corner (right on the edge) of this page: http://users.bathspa.ac.uk/greenwood/map_c4u.html If you look around that area you might find Shaw's Garden. At least you can see what the area would have looked like when your rellie was there.
Cheers Prue

Thanks Prue,
That's a great site. I'll put it on my favourites now.
I'll see if I can find Shaw's Gardens. It's great just to see the area. I'll look for the other ones as well.
Appreciate you help.
Thank you Di
