I have traced my ancestry to the following Drogheda family who came to Sunderland c.1850: John Clark married Catherine Gartland c.1840 and had the following children - Bridget b.1843 Drogheda. Sponsors James Duffy & Mary Gartlany Matthew b.1845 Drogheda. Sponsors Mich.Curran & Bridget Hamill
Catherine Gartland had a sister, Margaret and she married a Christopher Thornton and they too came to Sunderland.
I have been trying to establish where in Drogheda this family came from by using the 1837 Drogheda Householders list as well as Griffiths. I found Clarks, Gartlands and Duffys in Barrack Lane in 1837. In Griffiths I found Clarks, Thorntons and Gartlands in Yellowbatter. Are these likely to be the same connected families or was Barrack Lane a more urban location than Yellowbatter and therefore the connection less likely.
My gt grandmother's family were from Drogheda, does this little extract concerning the Clarke connection ring any bells?
