Sees ya come to our Scottish meet then -

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,206729.0.html

And if you're Welsh, you're extra welcome  Wink

You could also search for Samuel on the IGI - www.familysearch.org  but if you check out that marriage in 1875, you'll get the names of both Mary and Samuel's parents.

I want to let you do a little yourself but here you go:  Grin

  • SAMUEL BRUCE MOAR
Birth: 10 FEB 1855 Mid And South Yell, Shetland, Scotland
Parents: ANDREW MOAR and ELIZABETH GRAY

It's an 1855 birth so lots of information! You can get this on ScotlandsPeople. It'll tell you the parents, where and when they married and also where they were born. More info includes how many children had been born at the time of Samuel's birth and whether they were alive/deceased.  Smiley

Just seen this - don't be daft  Smiley  Added to explain - I was showing how few units you need to get lots by using Sp/IGI/local records to find ancestors  Wink

Hume - Jan's the lucky one with the 1855 birth  Shocked Shocked Shocked

Jan - 1855 births had even more info than normal for Scotland  Grin

You're right there. Now only if my family had a child in 1855 (or married/died, of course), might makes thing easier.  Grin I think I've had every year but '55! *sigh* Maybe another branch...

well a glasgow meet seems a good excuse to explore a part of scotland i havent been to and i get to talk family history to people who dont think i am being boring! ... will get Hubby on the case...

If i can ever repay you for some research in Manchester let me know, I can get to Peel Park Library easy enough.

You have found out loads on Robert Moar, he has the same attraction to me as my Noah Thomas does, isnt it funny how someone becomes your favorite person in your ancestors even if you have never met them or seen a picture of them...

Oh i cannot wait to tell the rest of the family, I wanted to update Ancestry and it keeps saying they are updating.. arghhhhhhh

So I am lucky that 1855 has lots of info... I need to digest all this info, it is so exciting.  I didnt realise Family History could be so exciting.  I love reading about the 1800's, it is my favorite period of history but to find names and things about your own family is fab.

Thank you so much

Not 100% sure in 1841 Andrew's age seems mighty rounded down - but it could happen.

North Yell, Shetland
ED 1 P 8

Brakon

Catherine Moar   52 Y
Catherine Moar   24 Y
James Moar         22 Y
Alexander Moar   20 Y
Andrew Moar       15 Y
Johannah Moar    13 Y
Wilhelmina Moar  11 Y
Margaret Moar      8  Y

Can't find any other family that could fit? It's not yours directly as Andrew is living with Catherine jnr in 1851.  I'll leave them crossed out as they may fit on a collateral line.

North Yell, Shetland
