Hi Graceland,

Thank you for the kind offer. I will PM you after this. If it works, here is the Wedding Reception Pic. I can identify about half the folks. It includes another son (Allen 1885 - 1928) of my grandfathers brother William (1862 - 1904). His wife was licencee of the Hop Pole, Lower Bristol Road. That is still there, but the houses to the West were levelled by a Focke Wulf 190 fighter bomber or Junkers 88, or later versions in 1944. Allen's wifes (Edith Annie Bishop) father John was licencee of the Green Tree Tavern, also Lower Bristol Road, earlier. My grandfathers sister Kate (1870 - 1954) and her husband are also there. Her husband George Grail (1868 - 1944) was a councillor at Stratford Upon Avon, previously Soudley (Manager of the now Dean Heritage Centre) and Newnham.

Roger

I thought I'd jump on the bandwaggon and see if anyone has further info re 'The King's Arms' in Newent I've traced a relative Alfred Jenkins who was landlord there in 1851 and have a picture from the Gloucester pubs website but is it still there? His son Albert married the daughter of Jane Taylor who was landlady at the St Ducie Arms Inn in Gloucester - is that still there?

Sorry Gillj, I don't know Newent.

Graceland kindly e-mailed me the Vauxhall Pics. Does not look the same place as my Wedding Reception Pic. Next guess is Gloucester Labour Club, sorry Maggie Thatcher.

If I ever hack the upload pics. feature, only get [Img][Img] for now will post some 'Then and Nows'.

Brilliant Graceland, now I suppose I have to explain who some of these people were, and indeed a couple may still be. I just hope RootsChat has the bandwidth. I'll be back.

I'll start off with the children. Left to right, Lester J Griffiths Born Bath 23 Nov 1918, Jack A Born Keynsham Bristol 1917, and Irene A Born Bath 1915. Jack, I'm told died young but don't know when. Lester married Margaret Hunter Born 1916 at Leicester, where she lived in 1950. Oddly enough only less than a mile from a hotel where I stay every March, but you don't need to know about that. I have a pic. of Lester in Army uniform from 1944. They were in Bath until 1985, he had a driving school and she had a dress shop. Irene was married with a family by 1947 but I've never found her married name. She and Lester may still be living. A few years back, the DHSS, who don't respond to family history enquiries, kindly told me they were not deceased. Other avenues not open to everybody drew a blank, so I think Lester and Margaret had retired to South of France or Spain. The childrens parents were Allen (1885 - 1928)and Edith (1883 - 1933)(Nee Bishop) Griffiths. Allen is 3rd from Right Back Row. Edith A is 8th from Right Back Row. Allen was a GWR Clerk and Edith licencee of the Hop Pole, Lower Bristol Road, Bath. Other ID's to follow.

There's so much info. to this pic. I'm having difficulty in laying it out in a rational disciplined way. Here's another stab.

Seated Left to Right. Kate Grail (Nee Griffiths)(1870 - 1954) sister to my grandfather, unknown, Lilian May Wilkins (Nee Griffiths)(1891 - 1995, no typo) daughter of my grandfathers brother William (1862 - 1904), Harry Holder (1882 - 1947), Beatrice Louise Holder (Nee Griffiths)(1887 - 1980) daughter of William Gr., Hannah Griffiths (Nee Richings)(1862 - ?) widow of William?Huh, A sister of Hannah, name escapes me now but died 1958 I think, and Constance 'Connie' Grail Born 1902, married Frank Thompson 1924, he's the guy extreme left with his hand in his pocket. It was still there in 1938 when my father photographed the wedding of Kate's son Kenneth.

I'm making a real hack up of this, but I'll get there in the end.
