how do you rid of red bleeding on 1970's photos
« on: Friday 26 January 07 13:07 GMT (UK) »

Hi folks

This is my hubbys Pete's family around 1973, as you can see it gone red.  I've tried to use the colour restoration on the epson scanner but all it does it make it go light yellow and blue.  Anyone know how to make it look more lifelike?

Hi scruffypup

Use "levels"  to alter the colours - red, green, & blue individually (on your photo software) - that will make a huge difference to this photo and bring out the real colours.

Cheers

Hi guys

Thanks for your replies. On the box for the Epson 3490 it shows a photo like mine with excellent results on it after using the colour restoration buton on the scanner prog, maybe 600 resi is too high for it.  The software that comes with this scanner is photo impression and epson file manager neither of which seem to give you much option of controlling RGB more a case of a sliding rule for colour hue and tone rather than an option to sort out the olours separately.  I know you are going to say serves me right for not being a more expensive model with better software.  It's very good at scanning most things just not old colour bleeding (I'm not swearing honest )photos Sad.

Hi Caz

Many thanks dear friend,  You always do a good restoration. Smiley
Pete's mum has the wedding photo you did of her and his dad on their wedding day on her sideboard, it's got pride of place.

Not sure but this is just one of the 3 levels I alter.
Bring in the end marks to the start of the "mountain range" - both sides if necessary.
You can alter the middle mark but most times that's just for minor alterations.

As I say do this with all 3 RGB colour levels separately.

As with most things Julie - each to his own - but I use a scanner to scan and photo software for alteration.

Cheers

Keith

Ooo Keith...that looks very technical.....I do remember a training video on, I think the Photoshop website, but I think it will take quite a lot of practice on my part.  I wouldn't try to do any alterations using scanner software though....most of it is rubbish no matter which scanner you have Julie.

Hi Keith,Jean and Mudge ( I remembered you today Mudge Smiley you can tell the cold's getting better)

There are so many different photosuites out there, seems like a new one comes out every week, very confusing to us amateurs to know what to buy. I think you are right though about the scanner software not being up to much.  You guys have done brilliant job with your efforts, many thanks it's much appreciated.
