Hi Havenchris.
I don't know if it will help you but I had a friend who was researching his Dixon family and traced the line back to several of the family working in the lead mines in the Borrowdale area. He was put on the wrong track by some being referred to as Captain, thinking this was seafaring, but he got a book named Seathwaite Wad and found out that Captain referred to a team leader in the mine. There are also some photos of some of the Dixon family and I know that some of his relations have been and seen a cottage where one of them lived.

HI Havenchris. I think i am researching the same Dixon Family and have recently come into possesion of a family tree for Dixons from Borrowdale and the graphite mines. Some of these were Mine overseers etc Also the cottage appears to figure in the information. We are back to John Dixon in 1700?? Also Thomas Dixon of Longdale. Mine steward Bap. 1726 M. Margaret af Hawkeshead 1748? Hawkeshead Drop me an email and we will see just where we are up to. Les Dixon

Just started doing some research on the Dixons, as Margaret Dixon looks to be my g-grandmother also. My grandfather was her son Herbert. What was your connection?
Regards

Hi Tony, I was most interested in your addition to the Rootschat. We certainly have a lot of ancestors in common - Marshalls and Dixons for a kickoff!! I have more old photos of some of the Marshalls if you are interested and I have done a fair bit of digging on both ancestral lines - it would be nice to compare notes. My email address is if you would like to contact me.

Hi All
Sorry to come in on this thread but Seathwaite Wad caught my eye. My hubbie and I know of Ian Tyler the author, I don't know whether he would be able to give you any more info. He owns the mining museum in Keswick.

Hi,
Thanks for the information. My wife and I were planning to go up to the Lakes soon, so we will seek out the mining museum.
