Country Houses of the Old Glasgow Gentry

The Old Country Houses of the Old Glasgow Gentry was published in 1870, and the Second and greatly enlarged Edition was published in 1878. The Volume was Illustrated with 100 plates, containing views of the old houses; the letterpress described the houses and gave an account of those who successively possessed them - their origin, history, and connections.

Christopher -

Just a short note to say thanks for sharing "The Old Country Houses of the Old Glasgow Gentry" link with us Rootschatters. .

I found the history and stories fascinating reading and the old pictures were wonderful. Of course I didn't find any relatives (thought I didn't expect to find any) but that wasn't my only intention for looking at the site.

Thanks again.

Had a look at Glagypals site and thought it was great
Especially the Peoples Palace as there is a photo of my aunt in there.

My Family came from the Brigeton area and I had a look at Green Street and Tabago st. My relatives lived in Tabago Place, Orr St, Green st and a few others around that area.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to look at the site.

An old map of Glasgow dated 1912.  I found this old map of Glasgow at the National Library dated about the time my grandparents were married and in fact ordered a copy. I was amazed at the quality of the map that they sent me. It's so good that I'm going to frame it.

However, you can still look at it on this site. Zoom in to take a look. Neat:)

If the link doesn't work let me know.
