George Foster was born in Hemel Hempstead (or surrounding area) on November 5th 1884. He married Alice Hollick on December 24, 1905 in Hemel Hempstead.
That part was easy. There are at least 4 George Fosters born in the Hemel Hempstead area between 1884 and 1886. I've checked the census returns and I'd like to be able to decide which one is him but I can't. I've been dithering over this for ages and I'd like some advice.
Can anyone help me?

Do you have George Foster and Alice Hollick's marriage certificate? Does it give his fathers name?
If you don't have the certificate that would be my first port of call.
If you do and it has his fathers name you could search for him on previous census'. Also who were the witnesses? Often it could be a brother or close relative. This may give you a clue as to which family he belonged to.

p.s. do you actually have Georges birth certificate? How do you know his dob? Does it not say exactly where he was born? and give his parents names?
