An epidemic in Furneux Pelham in 1787?
« on: Monday 29 January 07 19:30 GMT (UK) »

Does anyone know of an illness in the area of Furneux Pelham in 1787?

I’ve just discovered that my 4xGt. Uncles Joseph and Thomas Bayford (twins) died at 6 months old from ‘an illness’. Their father Ralph apparently died with the same illness 3 months later.

Was there an epidemic of some illness around about that time?

Hope someone might be able to throw some light on this!

Many thanks

Hi Keith

Thanks for the suggestion. I had never heard of the event to which you refer so I did a bit of Googling - it was in 1783, just a few years before. I can't believe I'd never heard about it before, apparently it killed 23,000 people in Britain!
