Thanks for the kind offer.  I visted the Churchyard recently but did not have a chance to do a complete search due to wind, rain and dark.  I would be interested to know if there are any DEVLIN and McGAFFNEY surnames that I might have missed.  I found one for PATRICK DEVLIN and MARY McGAFFNEY along with their children - Thomas, Patrick and Agnes.  Are there any others?

Best regards,
Sean

Hi Sean
Lair 176 - the one you found, also has on it: Edward devlin MBADT died 1 feb 1955 aged 85 and Peter J Devlin died 31 march 1978 aged 69.

Lair 215 - Charles Devlin died Annbank 5 march 1941 aged 79. his wife margaret n foster died annbank 9 sept 1944 aged 86. their dau ellen died 26 march 1954 aged 61.

lair 479 - in memory of Robert Devlin d 25 may 1982 aged 64 dearly loved nephew of the family;
Daniel C Donohoe died 22 jan 1985 aged 89 dearly loved husband of Elizabeth Devlin.

lair 480 - James Devlin died 4 august 1979 beloved husband of jessie McPhee; also their son Kenneth died as an infant.

That is the only McGaffney (the one you found) memorial in tarbolton churchyard. Do you know there is a more modern cemetery just outside the village? Along Montgomerie St, past the Black Bull PH, and after a while the road forks to the left and a wee bit further on the newer cemetery is on the left. McGaffney is still a name in the village and so is Devlin.

Hope these entries help you in your searches.
best wishes

Thank you for the incredibly fast response and the addition of several names to my records.   Unfortunately I did not know that there was a second village cemetery and only visited the older one while on a trip there from my home in the US in early January of this year.  My records include a dozen or so other Devlins who were born in Tarbolton,  but I have not made contact with any from the village.  Do you know of any Devlins in the area who would be interested in sharing family history?  If so, please feel free to put them in touch with me.  Thanks again.

Hi
Glad the memorials helped. Sorry, I'm not in the village any longer - moved to a new parish - but still got the book!

If you are still offering lookups - could you please check for McCormick (or mack).

Thanks in advance.

Hi Maureen
Sorry no Hendren in Tarbolton Churchyard. henderson and Drennan are the nearest spellings. As I said before to someone else, there is another more modern cemetery in tarbolton, and I don't have a book for that one. (don't think there is a book for it). It is the cemetery still in use.
sorry I can't help this time

Hello - I'd be really grateful if you could check for a John McGregor who died 1858 age 87 and according to the DC is buried at Tarbolton.  He is listed as a widower but no wife's name mentioned and I am hoping that a MI may prove/disprove his wife to have been Alice or Alison Marshal(l)  Mention of any children on the MI may also help.

Thank you very much  Smiley

hello mcgregor123
this is what i can find for you from the index:
lair 11    Hugh pearson died failford june 1839 aged 59 and his wife Janet McGregor died 18 oct 1870 aged 86.

lair13    george Bryan farmer in Benston d 6 dec 1849 aged 92 and his wife Mary McGregor d 22 nov 1849 aged 79

lair 250   John McGregor d at West Carngillan (a farm) 11 aug 1904 aged 58 also his wife MAry Shaw d at park Mill 9 aug 1916 in her 69th year.

doesn't appear to be an older one for the previous John McGregor, but these may help you trace folk a bit.
sorry no sign of any Marshalls at all. Many of the older graves have no memorials at all.
how have you got on with Scotlands People site looking for a marriage for him? or on a census return?

good hunting

Thanks very much for checking for me.  I know that the John McGregor I am looking for was married to Alice/Alison Marshal(l) and that he died before 1859, probably in Ayrshire, and I have this Death Cert but I can't say if it is for the right JM or not.  It may be that he died before 1855, but if there had been a MI with the wife &/or children's details, I would have hit the jackpot!

If family history was straightforward, we wouldn't do it!  Many thanks for taking the time to check.

Hello
I wonder if you could look up in the index for me. I have James Muir marrying Margaret McGrigour on 10 Nov 1797 at Tarbolton. Can you see anyone in the churchyard likely to belong to this couple?
many thanks,
