Hello Fairlane
McGregor there, not your spelling. the cemetery doesn't go abck as early as them.
there are 2 McGregors -
lair 11 - Hugh pearson, Mason, Failford d june 1839 aged 59 and his wife janet McGregor d 18 oct 1870 in her 86 year.

Lair 13
George Bryan late farmer in Dykes d 6 dec 1849 aged 80, his wife Mary McGregor d 22 nov 1849 aged 79.
there were McGregor's in Dykes Farm until a few years ago.

The only Muir is Marion Muir in lair 153 as wife of David Mackie d 1 aug 1893 aged 58.

Hope these help a bit

Hello Revmother

Many thanks for your incredibly quick response. I'm just getting to grips with the variety of spelling of the same names - don't think the McGregors belong but I'll do some searching forward down the line to see if this is a branch off. I have baptisms for two of the children of this couple in Mauchline in 1798 and 1800 (unfortunately both girls - one of whom is my mother's line) and hoped to find either James or Margaret's parents in the graveyard!
Many thanks,

Fairlane

Hi Welshgirl
No joy, sorry. You don't give any idea of dates. The cemetery is mainly 19th century, as there is a new cemetery outside the village that has been used since then, and there isn't a book for it.
Any Neil or Neill's weren't those first names, sorry

Fairlane,

So very very strange as I am reading these posted messages.  My maiden name was "Muir".  On my father's side my ancestral roots are in Scotland.

My great grandfather was James Muir.  He was born Jan. 6, 1826 in Kilmarnock, Ayreshire, Scotland.  He died Mar. 11, 1910 in Canada.  My great grandmother was Jane Maxwell.  She was born June 2, 1836 in Scotland.  She died Dec/ 18, 1927 in Canada.  Jane was the daughter of Hugh Maxwell.  I do not know her mother's name.

Thought I would pass this on.

Hi Sue
There is a Lowrie mentioned in the St Quivox book (on the edge of Ayr about 5 miles from Tarbolton)
Erected by James Hamilton in loving memory of his wife Sarah Lowrie d 11 July 1932 aged 82, also the above James Hamilton d 19 dec 1932 aged 89.
don't know if that one is any good for you.

morning , and thank you for that info , i am not sure if it applies but i am logging it down , we do have the name sarah in the family so might just fit , thanx again ,

1 other thing , the problem i have with this family is , james lowrie b1811 moved to liverpool and married agnes greer b 1812, on there marraige cert it says they were born in scotland , james dad was a butcher called john lowrie , agnes dad was a fireman, called john greer,.also from scotland .

i have no idea were in scotland they all came from so have been trawling through all the names on all the sites trying to work out were they came from , then i can get birth certs for all .

What a nightmare lol, thanks again for your help .

Hi Sue
have you tried the scotland web site : www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - you can search for births etc on there. It might give you some clues. you pay for 30 credits that cost £6 and last about 90 days (I always use them in less than a week!!) I don't have any credits on there at the moment or I would look them up for you. but you can look up their births and marriage. remember to tick the soundex box if a certain spelling of the surname doesn't come up with anything. just had a free peep - only 25 Lowries born in scotland between 1810 and 1812, so you might be able to narrow that down a bit if you pay up your pennies!
the birth certificates would certainly help you.
good hunting
