I am trying to find out when & where Catherine Vaughan (b 1833 in Cosheston) died. She was alive in 1901 (from Census living in 3 Bush St East, Pembroke with daughter Elizabeth Bird). I have looked through all deaths in the civil registration index from 1901 to 1940 (would make her 107!). Having now sent for 4 certificates where the age was correct to 3 or 4 years and all are the wrong person, I am at a loss of what to do next. Her husband - John Vaughan - died in 1881 and was buried in Neyland cemetery but Catherine was not buried with her. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat!
could she have gone to live with another one of her children? Her death might be registered elsewhere and she could be buried elsewhere?
Catherine Vaughan 67 sept qtr 1901 Bedwelty vol 11a pg 48 Catherine Vaughan 73 dec qtr 1905 Merthyr Tydfil vol 11a pg 360 Catherine Vaughan 82 june qtr 1915 Llanelly vol 11a pg 1317
Have you tried the registry office in Haverfordwest which I think holds all the Pembrokeshire records - they could search for you in case her details didn't make it onto the full GRO index?

Thanks for the response Osprey. She had two children; Elizabeth who she was living with in 1901 and my Grandfather James George Vaughan who lived in Gloucester from 1901 - I have checked and there are no records of a Catherine's death in Gloucester either.
The Bedwelty & Merthyr certificates I have and neither are her. I must admit I haven't applied for the Llanelly - I did record that one but for some reason didn't get the certificate (I'll order today).
Re The HaverfordWest office - would they conduct a search on my behalf - is that a service they offer?
Thanks Nigel

It would be worth asking for the search - nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Well I spoke to HaverfordWest Registry Office and the knowledgeable lady there said that all of the death records they hold WOULD be on the official 1837 index. So its back to the drawing board again - perhaps I'll have to wait for the 1911 Census to be released (heard that it may be a cut down version in 1908?) to try & narrow down the search!!

Tony, Yes I sent for the certificate for Llanfyllin and its the wrong Catherine. The Dolgelly entry would make the birth 1843, so thats not a match either. Nigel

Try this one mate,
If she was living in Pembroke with her daughter she may have been buried here,
