Hi Moblac
Welcome to Rootschat.  May all your research produce little ones  Smiley

The official ScotlandsPeople site shows a marriage between James Currie and Janet Renwick Grieve in 1892 in the parish of Dryfesdale.  (in and around Lockerbie and not far from Lochmaben).  The marriage certificate should tell you both parents of each of James and Janet
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

The same site should enable you to find James and Janet's birth certificates especially once you have found their parent's names.

wonder if this is your james?

james baird currie born 13th feb 1865 lochmaben, son of james currie and mary baird.

james and mary baird married 5th dec 1862 in lochmaben

other children noted from this marriage

william...27/9/1869...applegarth
john...1/11/1872...applegarth
andrew...5/11/1874...johnstone by lockerbie

i suggest a wee search of the 1871 census for your james, this would also help to confirm his parents.

A 'wee lookie' at James Currie and Mary Baird(Beard)'s marriage reg  on Dec 5 1862, Lochmaben shows that James's parents were John Currie, labourer (dec) and Mary maiden surname ? Wright.

Mary Baird's parents were James Baird, labourer and Jane maiden surname Sharp (dec)

Hi Joe  Smiley

If it helps you find Mary Baird on the 1851/61

She is down as 22 on the marriage reg and James is down as 19. I think they might have manipulated their ages a bit between censuses and registrations  Wink

I've got the family on the 1881. By then James, jnr has flown the nest and I can't get a real 'home in' on him:

1881

832 ED 2 Page 3
Johnstone, Dumfriesshire

James Currie, 38, Farm Serv, b. Dumfries
Mary, 40, b. Lochmaben
William, 11, b. Applegarth
John, 8, b. Applegarth
Andrew, 5, b. Johnstone
George, 3, b. Johnstone
Mary Jane, 1, b. Johnstone

At the moment, this is the nearest that I can find on the 1851 - as Corrie

821 ED 4A page 15
Rashgill park, Locharbriggs, Dumfriesshire

John Corrie, 46, b. Urr, KKD, quarry labourer
Mary, 40, b. Torthorwald
Edward, 19, b. Dumfries
Robina, 11, b. Dumfries
William, 9, b. Dumfires
James, 7, b. Dumfries
Margaret, 6 months
Also a daughter,  Jessie, aged 44 - most likely 14!

the baird family are still living at broomhill park on the 1841 census

james...age 30...stocking maker
jean...age 24
james...age 8
andrew...age 6
john...age 3
mary...age 8 months.

cannot find james currie on the 1851 census, think his name may be transcribed as corrie??

igi says john corrie married mary wright torthorwald, dumfries 28/5/1830?

do you think that this is james's family?

strange about the 1881 census pal?
