Still Looking Baptism Midsomer Norton - Thomas MAGGS
« on: Wednesday 07 February 07 10:27 GMT (UK) »

Hi,

I am trying to find a record of the birth/baptism of Thomas MAGGS. He was born about 1770 to 1785 (I think) probably in Midsomer Norton. If this then leads to his parents also in MS that would be great.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks

Ivor

Hi Ivor,
I have one MAGGS from that area
Mine is Ann MAGGS she married James Carter in Paulton 30 May 1768 and died in1831 in Paulton. She is direct line but I just can't find where or when she was born her husband was born 1743/44 so she must have also been born about then.
I also found a MAGGs /BULL marriage in Paulton and as we are interested in BULLS from Paulton persued it back a bit The groom was James MAGGS from Midsomer Norton (1858) son of James (1814) and Sarah from MN
Finally I noted William MAGGS (abt 1788) and Mary from MN who had a son George (abt 1823) he married Elizabeth Carter 1843 again in Paulton.
Not much to go on but should you come across Ann let me know I'll keep an eye out for your Thomas too

Joburg,

Thanks - yes I had found the High Littleton Thomas Maggs before and discounted him.

The date and place of birth I have got from the census returns which clearly give Midsomer Norton as place of birth. Looking at the 51 and 61 census's again it is more likely to be about 1771-1772.

As it happens the family, after marriage are found in Farmborough (adjacent to High Littleton).

Anyway I am still looking

Thanks alli

The date for the marriage between George and Christian is pretty good for a birth  in 1771ish and, of course the place is right too. I will certainly take note of this one and if at some time I get an inkling  of the birth details for my Thomas I hope it will fit.....I will keep on trucking....

Thanks again
