Hobby/ Jenkins. Almeley Quakers
« on: Saturday 10 February 07 16:53 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for any info on the above names in the area of Almeley, Wooton. We think that the Hobby's were Quakers and attended the Friends meeting house there.

Any living relatives please feel free to send me a private message.

Thanks, Annette.

Hi EBN,

thanks for your interest, we know that Amy Elizabeth married a Edward Joseph Jenkins in 1916 in above church, they are both buried at the church as well as a lot of other members of both families. I am hoping any living relatives will please get in touch,

Thanks again Annette.

Hi. If you log on to www.hmwquakers.org you will be able to view the burial ground records for Almeley and you will see that there are about half a dozen Hobby's buried there as well as several Jenkins. The most recent burial was Gladys Hobby in 1993. The Meeting house is just north of the village in Lower Wootton on the Lyonshall road. The meeting house is one of the oldest in Britain. It is a beautiful old Black and White building set in perfect tranquility (if I seem biased its because I grew up in Almeley) From personal experience I have found that Quakers are very accomodating and I would imagine that they would be very helpful.

Hi Alemley,

thanks for all that info, I had already discovered the website (see my previous message) and the meeting house and area does seem beautiful.

I am hoping that anyone who is related to or knows anything about the two families will please get in touch.

Thanks again, Annette.
