I am looking for info on the Burne family from Johnstown. I am a direct descendant of John Joseph Burne who emigrated to Canada about 1906 with his wife, Charlotte, and their adult children. He is supposed to have owned a farm in Wicklow and also in Cork and was called a gentleman farmer. Thank you for any and all information.

If you have an approximate year of birth, you can look for him in the birth indexes held from 1864 in the Dublin GRo or on film at your local family history centre of you could try the 1901 census of Johnstown.

Dear Kate,
He was born in 1838 in Red Cross, Co. Wicklow and I haven't been able to find him on any site, Griffiths, or the 1901 census. I have a copy of my Grandmother's birth certificate and can't find her either. She is Mary Elizabeth Jane Burne, born Johnstown, Co. Wicklow 7-31-1881 and emigrated about 1906 to Canada. Her mother, dad and several siblings came the next year. He had sold his property and built a new home in Alberta.  Thanks for your help.

That's right. The birth indexes are not available online. You have to go and find them! Some early birth 1864 to 66 or 67 are part of the IGI and some later ones are on the CDs called BVRI Ver 2.

I have been looking for John Joseph Burne of Johnstown for years. His youngest brother, Thomas William Burne 1851 – 1917 was my grandfather. Thomas, his wife Margaret and their 6 children emigrated to Australia in 1911.

In 1901 John Joseph Burne was the landholder of four farms including his own, in Templerainey; and he still remained the landholder of his old farm at Johnstown South, which was occupied at that time by E.V. Grimshaw.

Whoops! Just found your post on the chat. I haven't been on here in months as you can obviously see. Have been out of pocket for awhile. This info is very helpful and interesting. No wonder I haven't been able to find anything on J. J. as it was in Templerainey and not Johnstown.
I really don't know anything about Ballykeane, only that JJ was born in Redcross.
