I am stuck with my Family tree, in Oakham, where I have located births of my ancestors William Ellicott, born 1855, and his Wife Charlotte Elizabeth nee Drake born 1850 also in Oakham. They married there in 1878, by 1881 Census they had two children Joseph and Lancelot. From there the trail becomes muddied I know a later son George Ellicott born Oakham 1886 , married Elizabeth nee Price in 1918 whilst in the Army. They returned to Oakham and worked for Lord Lonsdale. An Aunt known as 'Madge' Ellicott was in Oakham after WWII , working as Housekeeper to Adolphus Drake at Bisbrooke House . I believe Adolphus was related to Charlotte, but cannot get any further from here in Australia. Any help regarding any of these people or their siblings would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Maggie in Western Australia

G"day, Many Many Thanks for the info you have sent. I was puzzled by the losing C comments on first message then got second and all became clear. I wonder whether Christina may have been a childhood death. There were several inanother branch of the family. Also your Post Errand boy , makes a lot more sense than an earlier report we had of him as a Port Errand boy, bit far from any ports I would reckon,in Rutland We are really frustrated by poor old Madge, Maggie remembers visiting her and Adolphus [ Uncle Dolph] but does not know whether she was a spinster , or maybe widow of one of the Ellicott boys.BMD con't help with any ideas, and we have no idea what Madge was as a real name , or even if it is a real name. Don't suppose you have any thoughts on that by any chance. Thanks again Derek & Maggie [ the grateful descendant ]
BLIMEY ANSWERS before I even hit Post CRYSTAL BALL in full flight ! THANKS AGAIN

Turning to the Drake question - Charlotte can be seen back to the 1851 census, her Father was William b1820... an Aglab. She does however give her PoB as Oakham, and is in Oakham.
In 1871, Charlotte was in service to a Solicitor in Putney .... RG10/717; Folio: 40; Page: 28
Not sure that - given the much later timeframe of WWII you mention, that we'll see an obvious link to an Adolphus Drake in these earlier records ...
JUST SEEN your message - pleasure to help - will give some thought to the Madge / Dolph question ! Kind regards, Newfster.

Interesting ... might be worth searching for offspring post-1901 ... (btw MADGE is most usually the nickname for Margaret ... )

Adolphus was born abt 1873 [ 1881 census]in Oakham.Father was Joseph, and mother Kezia. He at one stage owned the Falcon in Uppingham , then in 1936 Bought Bisbrooke House from Church Commissioners and ran it as a small Guest house , had one of the only two phones in town and owned a Rolls Royce. "Madge" was the Housekeeper there and whenever Maggie Visited she was referred to as Madge Ellicott. So we think she was most likely a widow of one of the Brothers or a much younger sister, of George .Maggie thinks her George and Aunt Bess all looked around same age ,but to a teenager anyone over 50 gets the Oldie tag. Thanks again Cheers Derek & Maggie You Did it again answered before I can even ask the Question. That is them, Maggie remembers going to see Sarahs Grave near uppingham in a village just upfrom Bisbrooke.

hmmmmn, so one would have to work back in relevant records from 1936, looking for a Margaret Ellicott ... and/or an Ellicott male marrying a Margaret .... quite tricky, but not impossible !

Looks like I'm going to be trawling through Ancestry.com Records of BMDs from 1901 on for Mar Ellicott , . Maggie just looked at a letter from an old School friend Marjorie, that now calls herself Madge, so Mar should give me both Margaret and Marjorie. If none by about 1925. I"ll have to try to find the spouses of the Ellicott Boys.Maggie remembers George often talked of Percy when they visited Rutland. As more comes up she remembers little extra bits, like the Grave is in a village she thinks starts with a G I'm going to have to log off after this one for the Night, butb again many Thanks for all that you have turned up . I wish I could get the same sort of response to enquiries into my own Family!! Cheers Derek
