There are quite a few in Shropshire, the nearest one I can find to Bridgnorth is one living at Middleton Scriven abt. 5 miles away but he's 15 and a male servant on a farm, details if you want them,

Gah.

Bit of a hard one this! Huh

On the first page of an 1841 Index Search (on Ancestory.co.uk)there are 14 John Massey's listed in Shropshire Bn from 1791 to 1841 (I only have a Guest sub, so I can't access the ref details)

If You can post some more Info, we may be able to narrow the search a bit!

Have You any Idea when John Died!

Hi Pegasuss ,
Sorry i do not know when John died , but John's son (my gtgt grandfather james was brn in 1828 , i know it is nothing really to go on , having trouble finding anything about the family , in fact i only know his christian name because i sent for a copy of his son James's marriage cert , sadly i do not know james's mother either but i'm guessing it could be Elizabeth , as that is what james called his 1st daughter (2nd was named after james's wife ) as i said i'm cluthing at straw's ! and any suggestions or help much appreciated .

Hi Gail,

It's best to start with what you know from certificates etc and gradually work backwards.  You need to find son James birth. Do you have the son James on census, and work backwards that way? Then you would find him living with his father James and learn his mother's name, then look for their marriage, and so on.  We can help with census lookups if you give us more details about the younger James

  Hi Barbara ,
I have been unsucesfull in finding James's actual birth as i have only found him from 1861 up untill his death , in 1861 he give 's his place of birth as been Wolverly/ Worcester RG 9 / 1996..FOLIO 55...DAVIS BUILDINGS WOLVERHAMPTON ,  by 1871 he his with his 2 nd wife and give s his birth place as Wolverhampton (RG 10 /2940...FOLIO...92        and in 1881 gives his birth place as Quatford Worcester   (RG 11 / 4686 ..FOLIO 23 ) however his age is consistant with him been brn in 1828 , i did find one james massey brn 1826 with parents James and Alice but discovered that this is not the right one as i have both James's marriage cert's and his father is definatly named John on both .

I misunderstood, I thought you meant John had a son James, and James also had a son James, - so you need to find James b.1828 from 1841 - 1851 with father John? Will have a look for you

Can't see James in 1851.
Have been through 1841 Quatford census, only three Masseys there so looks as if the family had moved on unless John had died and Elizabeth is his widow:

HO107/923/5 fol.7 p.7  Quatford Castle
Elizabeth Massey 45 Female servant b. Shropshire
in household of John Smallman, Independent

same ref p.8 Quatford
Thomas Massey 78 Shoemaker
Susannah   "     75
Jane Thighs       12

Thank's for trying Barbara , i am going to post for James in 1841 on the Worcester site , see if anyone can find him there  ,  if only i could find him in 1841 or 1851 it might give me something more to go on ,  incidently you were right  in thinking John Massey had a son James Massey who also had a son James Massey !
   thank you for your help
